In one week, I will be in my new home for the summer - Denver, Colorado. I am joining 9 other college students to participate in Mile High Ministries' program, Denver Urban Semester (www.denverurbansemester.org), which is designed to help college students gain an understanding of what ministry to the "margins of our society" and the urban poor looks like. I will be living in a community that provides transitional housing to homeless families. My internship will be at a ministry that works with single moms and its neighbor, an art studio for street kids. We are also taking a couple classes that focus on theology and the poor and leading from below.
Right now it seems like I've just written a bunch of jargon or repeated a mantra I've said over and over whenever someone asks about my summer plans. There are a lot of things I really have no clue about. But I'm excited for this summer adventure to become more than just words, but to have stories, pictures, memories, and many prayers to share.
